The heating value of wood
In any calculations of heating effect, the efficiency of the appliance converting the fuel to heat must be taken into account.
A modern wood pellet boiler, i.e. Rika Evo Aqua, Windhager, ETA etc. should have a conversion efficiency of 80-90%.
A wood stove, i.e. Wildwood, Charnwood, Hunter should have a conversion efficiency of 60-80%.
Heat water in an accumulator tank:
To raise the temperature of 1000 ltrs water by 30°C requires 34.8kwh energy. This requires the burning of 10.5kg wood at 25% moisture with 85% boiler efficiency.
